Why you should be involved in Politics: it is the activity by which the framework of human life is sustained.
So many people remain uninterested in politics. They almost see it as a badge of “honor”. It is common thought that “your vote doesn't matter”, but this could not be further from the truth. The lack of involvement of many citizens leaves a blank canvas for politicians to not be accountable with applicable platforms for the communities they should represent, but most importantly they must be accountable for their failures and leaves them open to influence by the wealthy.
To be informed is uncomfortable and it takes effort to seek out reliable, truthful current affairs is not an easy chore. We can see that many resort to confirmed biases and stick to news sources that share their point of view. So much of the news is based on donors, lobbyists and ad buyers. Many of the topics taking up the most space on mainstream media are distractions and distortions of truth.
The focus is shifted to create narratives that shape our society and its interests. The reality of how American citizens have stayed away from politics has influenced not only this country, but also the world. The government of the United States of America has taken this lack of involvement and idealization and used it to their advantage. This is not aimed at one particular administration, this is one of the many cases that exhibits American exceptionalism. We must look to correct our many errors to strive to be the country that we want it to be.
It's not just a matter of going to the voting booth every few years- what you do in between is much more important. Being involved in activism can take many forms. Choose a cause or multiple you care about and reach out to local organizations to see how you can contribute.
